Shahed 161 (dbfcf597-4fe5-58b0-b861-e2765cd4f4d5)
The Shahed‑161 is Iran’s first indigenous, jet‑powered stealth UAV, derived from a 40 %‑scale copy of the captured RQ‑170. With a blended‑wing body, low‑observable airframe and an HKS micro‑jet delivering ~40 kg of thrust, it can cruise at 300‑350 km/h, reach 7 600‑8 000 m altitude and operate for 2‑3 hours. Its 150 km combat radius and 40‑50 kg payload allow it to carry two precision‑guided bombs or a seeker‑warhead package while also supporting electro‑optical/infrared ISR sensors. Launched from a vehicle‑mounted catapult and recovered by skid or parachute, the Shahed‑161 fills a niche between expendable loitering munitions and larger MALE drones, offering Iran a reusable, low‑observable strike and reconnaissance platform for high‑value, defended targets and underpinning a drone‑centric deterrence doctrine.
