The Qasef‑1 is an Iranian‑made loitering‑munition UAV derived from the HESA Ababil‑2 airframe. Built by the Iran Aircraft Manufacturing Industrial Company (HESA) and powered by a 19 kW (25 hp) WAE‑342 twin‑cylinder piston engine, it can cruise up to 370 km/h and stay aloft for 1.25–2 hours, carrying a 30 kg warhead within its 40 kg payload capacity. Operated exclusively by Yemen’s Houthi forces, the drone is launched from ground‑based JATO or pneumatic truck launchers and is employed chiefly to strike air‑defence assets such as Patriot radar systems. Its low‑cost, simple design enables rapid production and deployment in the Yemeni theater.
