Shahed 121 (902f96f6-327e-5cb1-8380-05ed862c6a34)

Shahed 121 is an Iranian‑made unmanned aerial vehicle produced by the Iran Aircraft Manufacturing Company (HESA). First spotted in 2016 when it flew over the U.S. nuclear‑powered carrier USS Harry S. Truman, the drone was described by Iranian officials as “clean‑winged” and therefore unarmed, while U.S. Navy observers labeled the sortie “abnormal” and “unprofessional.” The aircraft belongs to the Shahed family that includes the larger Shahed 129 and Shahed 125, and is primarily used for long‑range intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance missions rather than direct strike operations. Its appearance in international airspace has been interpreted as a strategic signaling tool and a means of testing air‑defence responses.
