The RQ‑2 Pioneer is a lightweight, twin‑boom UAV developed jointly by Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) and AAI Corp. Powered by a 26 hp Sachs 2‑stroke gasoline engine, it cruises at up to 200 km/h with a 5.2 m wingspan and a maximum take‑off weight of 205 kg. Designed exclusively for intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR), the platform can be catapult‑launched from land or ship decks and recovered via net or arrestor hook. Its analog line‑of‑sight video link provides real‑time imagery to ground stations, supporting battlefield awareness for naval, army and marine units. The Pioneer saw extensive service in the 1991 Gulf War, the Balkans, Somalia, Kosovo and Iraq, and has been operated by the United States, Israel and Singapore. It carries no weapons and is classified as a Class I small ISR system.
